Unpopular Opinion Tag

This is an actual original youtube tag created by TheBookArcher. Although I do a tag every Tuesday with the Broke and the Bookish, I saw this on youtube and thought I might take a crack at it. If it goes great I might do other youtube tags.

Disclaimer: I must warn readers, I will be discussing popular books in a negative way, if you it’s not something that you like, then I suggest you skip this post. These are my opinions and I don’t mean to hurt or discriminate anybody.

1. A Popular book or series that you didn’t like
Divergent Series by Veronica Roth
I read the first book of this series and wasn’t that impressed with the characters. I enjoyed Roth’s world building, but that was it. I will try her other series if she comes out with them, but I will pass this one.

Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer
I know I will get a lot of hate for this, but Twilight is not a series that I love. The fist book I admit I enjoyed. Besides the instalove, there really wasn’t anything I disliked about it. I was entertained by the story. Then New Moon was released, and Bella was all useless without Edward, argh! I even read up until Eclipse hoping Bella would get better. Nope. So I didn’t bother with the last and will never re-read this series.

2. A Popular book or series that everyone else seem to hate but you love
There really isn’t much books that I like and everyone seems to hate. I’m pretty much easy to please and would tend to read books that people usually like. The books/series that did get a low rating on Goodreads, but I highly enjoyed are:
Heist Society by Ally Carter
The Diviners by Libba Bray
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner
I’m not saying they are hated, but they did get a lower-ish rating compared to the other books I’ve read.

3. A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with or and OTP(One True Pairing) that you don’t like
I don’t really have an answer for this. I try not to pick ‘sides’ right away. The one pairing that did confuse me was Harry Potter’s choice. Didn’t see that coming, but at the same time it’s not like I hated it, just it was all of a sudden. Other than that, I’m good.

4. A Popular book genre that you hardly reach for
YA Contemporary and Romance. I’m not saying that I hate this genre, it’s just not something I’m drawn to. I must read this genre when I’m in the mood for it or else I won’t be able to finish it.

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like
I guess taking a character from one of the series that I dislike, I would have to choose Bella Swan. I couldn’t stand her throughout the book. She was whinny and annoying, especially in the Eclipse book. She lost all sense of being just because her boyfriend left. Uncool and not a great example for teens.

6. A Popular author that you can’t seem to get into
Rainbow Rowell
I am so sorry to say this, but Rainbow Rowell is not an author that I think I will get into. As much as I wanted to like her, I just don’t think her books are for me. I picked up Fangirl this year and it wasn’t my kind of read. I don’t know if I had high expectations for it, but I found myself not liking it. Then the ending, argh the ending! I don’t even think that should be considered an ending.

7. A Popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing
Love Triangles. I think its done. I want to read a book/series were there are no love triangles. Write one guy or girl for the protagonist. Love triangles doesn’t make me want to read a series more. It doesn’t add or take away from my enjoyment either.

8. A Popular series that you have no interest in reading
I have no interest whatsoever to read any of these series. I tried picking up the first book of each one, but they never captivated me to even finish or continue it.
Mortal Instrument Series by Cassandra Clare
Read the first one, didn’t enjoy it.

The Maze Runner Series by James Dashner
I tried to read the first book several time and even tried listening to it in audio. Nothing worked. DNF

Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia
I’m sorry to say, but I didn’t even try to pick up any of these books. Its just really not something I would like

9. The saying goes “The books is always better than the movie,” but what movie or T.V show adaptation do you prefer more than the book
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
I hate to repeat book, but I would have to pick this for obvious reasons. I couldn’t get into the book, but I really enjoyed the movie

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Don’t get me wrong, I really love the book, but I have a special place for this movie. I really enjoyed it and usually watch the movie more than I re-read the book.

That’s all for this tag and hope everyone like it. To those who got offended, Sorry, but I did warn you from the beginning. Thanks to TheBookArcher for making the tag!
